This service will reset your 1998-2005 Lexus or Toyota ECU so you can program keys into it again. Your ECU will be placed into learn mode as if it were brand new. Once you install the ECU back in your car it will be ready to easily program existing or new keys into it. The process below assumes you have two master keys and a third valet key. Take care to follow the directions closely as you can only perform this procedure one time. The process to do so is as follows:
- Install the ECU
- Insert any key into ignition lock cylinder and remove it immediately. The security light should illuminate and remain on
- Insert the first key into the ignition lock cylinder, but do not turn it on. The security light may blink indicating the key has been accepted.
- Wait 5 seconds then remove the first key. Security light should remain on.
- Insert the second key into the ignition lock cylinder, but do not turn it on. The security light may blink same as step 3.
- Repeat step 4.
- For the third key repeat steps 2-4. Wait 30 seconds for programming mode to close.
- If you do not have a third key: You will need to manually close the programming mode. If you want to only program one or two keys, once you remove the final key the security light will still be illuminated. Press the brake pedal 5 times or turn the ignition on to off and back on again 5 times. This will end the key programming sequence. The car should start and run with your one or two programmed keys.
To test, insert a master key and the security light should stop blinking immediately. If you insert the third valet key, the light will remain solid for two seconds and then turn off.
If the car still does not start you may need to re-sync the ECU and the immobilizer. Perform these steps.
1) Insert a master key into the ignition and turn to “ON”. Do not start the car.
2) Use a jumper wire and connect terminal 3 and 14 on the OBD2 port for 30 minutes.
3) Remove the key from the ignition, remove the jumper wire, and attempt to start the car.
